Henna: The Rhythm of Design Workshop at Jamballah NW

  • Jamballah NW at the Artists' Repertory Theater 1515 Southwest Morrison Street Portland, OR, 97205 United States (map)

Henna: The Rhythm of Design is one of the only skills based workshops that Wendy from Roving Horse Henna will be offering! Tickets are $50.00 pre-sale. Buy Tickets Here

This hands-on design and composition henna class is based on rhythm and drills. Henna designs, motifs, and compositions have their own flow and rhythm and we as artists do too! One of the most enjoyable aspects of working with henna is finding rhythms in design, and one of the most fun ways to work with rhythm is using music. We will begin with a half hour of henna bootcamp; working with 3 or 4 shapes that can be built into compositions and working on the nuts and bolts of basic technique.

Then it is time to turn up the music and let our hands and henna cones dance! We will experiment with different types of music while we practice and refine our basic motifs, letting the cadence of the music help us with uniformity and with flow. Finally, we will take our work from motif to composition, building simple but rhythmic and dynamic designs that we can use to adorn ourselves or each other with joy.

Participants will have the use of all the henna supplies they may need in class and will also receive a goodie bag with henna supplies to take home with them. (Value 25$+)

*Difficulty/What to bring: Supplies provided. Absolutely anyone is welcome to this hands-on lecture class. If desired, bring a pad and pen for notes, and your questions for the instructor!*
